Second Grade Journal

Aug. 27, 2014 - Seneca read Angelina Ballerina Has the Hiccups to me.  She also read "The Crow and The Pitcher" in her reading book.  She did a lesson in FLL.  Homeschool Park Day with other homeschoolers.

Aug. 28, 2014- Reading: Seneca re-read Angelina Ballerina Has the Hiccups with considerable improvement. I read the first two chapters/pages of Paddle-To-The-Sea to her.  Grammar: She recited the poem "The Caterpillar," by Christina G. Rosetti.  Lesson in FLL. Math: She completed a worksheet of addition problems.    Park Day just she and I at Lewis Park for two hours. Science: Wild Kratts

Aug. 29, 2014 - Reading: Seneca read "The Crow and the Pitcher" to her grandpa.  Then they added stones to a kettle of water to watch the water rise.

Aug. 30, 2014 - Seneca helped grandpa put a bookshelf together.

9/1/2014 - Reading: Seneca read "The Fox and The Crow."  Literature:  Seneca listened to Paddle to the Sea.  Math: one worksheet.  Handicrafts: Woodworking - put together another book shelf with her grandpa.  Grammar: lesson in FLL

9/2/2014- Homeschool Enrichment Day: found earth worms!  Reading: Seneca read "The Hare and The Tortoise."  Literature: Paddle to the Sea  Math: worksheet and Sum Swamp  Science: using an egg to demonstrate the earth's crust, mantle, and core

9/3/2014 - Reading: "The Boy and the Wolf"  Math: money with grandpa!

9/5/2014 - Reading: "The Lion and The Mouse"  Grammar: FLL  Math: Fractions review and more money and making change

9/11/2014- Grammar: FLL (writing first, middle, and last names) Spelling: copying spelling words  Math: math worksheet and money flashcards

9/12/2014-  Spelling: Spelling Test -2   Grammar: FLL Poem: "Work" Math: Shopping at Dollar Store.  Seneca went in with $5 and planned to buy 3 items, so she would have a dollar left over to buy little toys from the vending machines.  I had explained to her that she would need to get one less thing than however many dollars she actually had to spend.  She had $5, but she understood that she could spend $4 Art; sketching dress designs

9/14/2014 Handicrafts: Making play dough and then re-enacting scenes from Amelia Bedelia with her play dough and playing restaurant with her play dough.  Reading: Seneca read a few pages in Amelia Bedelia by Peggy Parish.  Music: Recorder Practice

9/15/2014 - Grammar: FLL Math: Addition worksheet and money flashcards PE: 15 minutes of jump roping and jumping jacks  1 hour at the park  Art: drawing dress designs

9/16/2014 - Homeschool Enrichment Day!  Riding horses and painting a flower pot.  Dance: Ballet  Spelling: Reading spelling words and then figuring out how to spell random words from sounding them out.  Grammar: FLL common nouns: places Literature: I read Seneca the fable "A Man, A Boy, and A Donkey."  Science: Wild Kratts: Porcupines and time outside finding bugs and worms at Homeschool Enrichment
